Message

Elevated API error rates

Details

We have a high degree of confidence that our current mitigation efforts will be successful, however it will take a short time to complete. As the mitigation proceeds, we expect to see incremental recovery until we are fully recovered. We will provide you with a further update by 12:45 PM PDT.

The issue is also affecting services that depend on EC2 such as EKS, ECS and Workspaces. Instances that are already launched continue to operate normally.

EKS Managed Node Group create and update operations are failing intermittently. Customers can create a new Managed Node Group by specifying subnets in the unaffected Availability Zones.

Message

Elevated API error rates

Details

We are experiencing elevated API error rates in a single Availability Zone (usgw1-az1) in the US-GOV-WEST-1 Region. Instances currently running are unaffected, however, API calls to create, modify or terminate the instances in the affected Availability Zone are not working. APIs calls directed to launch instances targeting the non-impacted Availability Zones are working. We have identified the root cause and are working to mitigate the issue.

Message

Increased Error Rates and Delays

Details

We continue to work on resolving the error rates and increased delays in network propagation for newly launched EC2 instances in a single Availability Zone (use1-az2) in US-EAST-1 Region. We are also seeing an increase in error rates and latencies for new instance launches in another Availability Zone (use1-az1), which is unrelated and is an issue with creating new EBS volumes during the instance launch. We are also working to resolve that issue, but impact remains lower and unrelated to the network mapping propagation issue. On the network mapping propagation issue in the use1-az2 Availability Zone, we are in the process of deploying an update to address the slow recovery in the remaining cells.

Network Connectivity Issues

Details

We continue to work towards resolving the increased networking latencies and errors affecting Availability Zones (usw2-az1 and usw2-az2) in the US-WEST-2 Region. We have now seen network mapping propagation latencies return to normal levels in usw2-az2. At this stage, all EC2 instance launches and network configuration changes in usw2-az2 are operating normally. We have seen strong recovery in usw2-az1 as well and will provide an update when network propagation latencies have returned to normal levels there as well.

Network Connectivity Issues

Details

We continue to progress toward resolving the increased networking latencies and errors affecting Availability Zones (usw2-az1 and usw2-az2) in the US-WEST-2 Region. At this time, we are approximately 50% completed with the update to address resource contention within the subsystem responsible for network mappings propagation in the usw2-az2 Availability Zone. Once we complete the update in usw2-az2, we will then move on to usw2-az1. Our current expectation is to have both Availability Zones fully resolved within the next 60 to 90 minutes, and we will continue to provide updates as recovery progresses.

About Our Amazon WorkSpaces Status Page Integration

Amazon WorkSpaces is a Cloud Infrastructure solution that StatusGator has been monitoring since March 2015. Over the past about 9 years, we have collected data on on more than 1,644 outages that affected Amazon WorkSpaces users. When Amazon WorkSpaces publishes downtime on their status page, they do so across 4,835 components and 31 groups using 3 different statuses: up, warn, and down which we use to provide granular uptime metrics and notifications.

More than 3,900 StatusGator users monitor Amazon WorkSpaces to get notified when it's down or has an outage. This makes it one of the most popular cloud infrastructure services monitored on our platform. We've sent more than 762,400 notifications to our users about Amazon WorkSpaces incidents, providing transparency and peace of mind. You can get alerts by signing up for a free StatusGator account.

If Amazon WorkSpaces is having system outages or experiencing other critical issues, red down notifications appear on the status page. In most cases, it means that core functions are not working properly, or there is some other serious customer-impacting event underway.

Warn notifications are used when Amazon WorkSpaces is undergoing a non-critical issue like minor service issues, performance degradation, non-core bugs, capacity issues, or problems affecting a small number of users.

Amazon WorkSpaces does not post separate notifications for planned maintenance work so we are unable to send notifications when maintenance windows begin. If you need Amazon WorkSpaces maintenance notifications, please email us.

Amazon WorkSpaces does not publish a feed of proactive maintenance events on their status page at this time. If they do, be sure to let us know and we'll aggregate Amazon WorkSpaces maintenance events into your unified calendar.

When Amazon WorkSpaces posts issues on their status page, we collect the main headline message and include that brief information or overview in notifications to StatusGator subscribers.

When Amazon WorkSpaces has outages or other service-impacting events on their status page, we pull down the detailed informational updates and include them in notifications. These messages often include the current details about how the problem is being mitigated, or when the next update will occur.

Because Amazon WorkSpaces has several components, each with their individual statuses, StatusGator can differentiate the status of each component in our notifications to you. This means, you can filter your status page notifications based on the services, regions, or components you utilize. This is an essential feature for complex services with many components or services spread out across many regions.
